WRGW News-- a go-to GW news source?

We've discussed The Daily Colonial and The Hatchet, but besides getting critiqued on its election coverage, we haven't really pondered whether or not WRGW News is considered a go-to place for campus news.

Sure, many of us may not be big radio listeners and tune into our campus radio station, but why don't we consider WRGW News like we do The Daily Colonial or The Hatchet?

Their website, in blog form, seems to be updated daily, with maybe the exceptions of weekend posts. (Their last post was this past Friday).

But the real question is: what is WRGW News lacking in its appeal to our need for campus news?

It has almost everything one could ask for: a savvy streamlined website, embedded videos (their latest an interview with Student Association President-Elect Jason Lifton), and a varying range of coverage (latest posts cover everything from metro delays to an opera performance at the Kennedy Center).

So then we must ask why WRGW News hasn't been discussed as a news source; is it because it isn't considered a main player in the game? Or has it just simply been overlooked by this blog's contributors?

Drinking for Haiti?

On January 15, The Daily Colonial reported that two GW students had decided to fundraise money for the recent Haiti catastrophe in an untraditional way--drinking. The seniors, Chris Reeves and Dave Roberts, decided on local campus bar 51st State as the hot spot for their cause.

How does one drink for Haiti? Well according to the article, Reeves and Roberts planned to

accept any drinks that other people buy for them, promising to drink the drink
and donate twice the cost of the drink to relief efforts in Haiti.

A Facebook group was made to promote the event,

inviting friends to come out, have a great time, get us hilariously drunk, and
support a good cause.

Reeves and Roberts aren't the only two at the university contributing towards Haiti relief. President Knapp has issued a message about the tragedy, and student organizations are doing their best to respond to the earthquake disaster as well. Even GW's Carribean Student Association has made a twitter account, GWHands4Haiti, to broadcast information.

As the week continues on, other GW initiatives towards Haitian relief efforts are sure to emerge. Will you drink for Haiti?

Round-Up & Open Thread

Interesting article at the Daily Colonial about good attire for interviews. (Fun excerpt: "J. Crew's Cha Cha Dot Pencil Skirt is preppy yet sophisticated.") The Hatchet's Jake Sherman won a slot in UWire's Top 100 college journalists - as did Emma Zayer from the Daily Colonial (congrats both). GWBlogspot's poll this past week indicates that commencement was pretty awesome.
