GWBlogspot is hosting a first-of-its-kind online forum, giving you the opportunity to interact directly with the candidates for every SA office right here on this blog. Have a question about an important issue? Want to know more about them? Ask here!
Numerous candidates for SA President, EVP, and Senator have already agreed to participate -- answering your questions and then engaging with you back and forth in the comments section.
Here's how it will work:
- Between now and 11:59pm on Thursday, February 19th, submit your question in the comment section of this post. If you like someone else's question, please write a comment saying so--that will help lift it into the top 5. If you have multiple questions, please post them separately, not all together.
- On Friday, February 20th, GWBlogspot will post the top 5 questions, each in their own post -- and we'll let all SA candidates know they can begin answering. We'll also invite you to comment back and forth with the candidates. This is intended to allow bottom-up discussion, as opposed to the typical top-down debate format where the moderator and candidates have a louder voice than the voter. The top 5 questions will be linked to the top lefthand area of GWBlogspot through the election, so voters and candidates can continue the dialogue every day.

Considering the flagrant abuses by the Aswani administration concerning financial matters, my question pertains specifically to the use of SA allocations and the student activity fund.
What regulations and oversights would you, as a candidate for SA, support to ensure that SA allocations and the student activity fund is used in a manner to benefit all students? I am specifically referring to misuses such as the Unity Ball.
Thank you!
After Vishal's failure in all aspects of the SA Presidency, how can you regain our trust and confidence in such an important position?
How can I catch a wild Mewtwo if I already used my Master Ball to catch Articuno?
Rick:
As a CCAS-U senator running for re-election, I'm qualified to tell you that you should have used the duplication cheat on Cinnabar Island to gain infinite master balls, THEN go out to catch Mewtwo and Articuno (as well as Moltres and Zapdos).
Which slot do I put the Master Ball in? 6th or 7th? I'm about to start a new game.
Will you support legislation to bring back a signature requirement to run for office within the SA?
What specific policies will you put in place to limit the carbon footprint of the university?
In your opinion, what is the most important issue facing GW students, and how will you work to fix it?
Even though a lot of people here at GW like to claim that rankings (including the US News & World Report ones) don't matter, they certainly seem to mean something to a lot of other people, including potential employers. How are you going to help improve GW's ranking? Can we hope to permanently crack the top 50 in 2010?
Will you make all the bad things go away?
Rick: The 6th Slot, Obvi.
This blog has originated some great little ideas -- who wouldn't want a bus to take all us college students to bars on GW's dime? How will you get us this bus?
The Aswani administration has cut serious funding to a large majority of student organizations in an unprecedented manner. For example, the Ballroom Dance Society at GW has in the past received $4000 in cosponsorships for our annual trip to Ohio. This year, the group received only $1800, the lowest we have ever received, in a year when the SA promised to allocate record amounts of money for cosponsorships. As president of the SA, how would you rectify this? Should student organizations continue to trust the SA to help them operate?
As a commuter student I use the metro to get to school everyday. What will you do to get students a metro discount?
Why do GW dorms have such bad lighting? Why is it impossible to put a decent light in them. I understand buying a lamp is not that expensive but with the price I pay for housing (which is beginning to be more expensive than off campus) shouldn't I have lights ?
How are you planning to ensure that GW students voices are heard by the administration? How will you create positive change at GWU, as well as continuing programming, considering last year's SA spent only time on programs like Unity Ball?
The Obama Administration has gone through great lengths to increase transparency in the federal government. Will you also make this effort?
If so, will you make a similar pledge to post bills online for student commenting 5 days before they're signed?
In response to a lot of the criticism that student government has gotten over the past year, would you agree to participate in forums like this on a somewhat regular basis to answer questions and take in student feed back on a variety of issues?
A lack of study space in Gelman is my primary concern as a student. What efforts will you make to fix this?
Do you honestly believe that you can improve J-Street quality/prices for students?
It cost me $4.00 to buy 7 strawberries at J St. What will you do to ensure fairer J St prices?
How do you think the university should respond to the recent expulsion of a NROTC student under the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy.
May be a cliché question, but policy/platform issues aside, why do you want to be president of the SA?
julie mentions special student prices for gw catering as a goal. doesn't this already exist in the form of their "no frills" student org menu?
