Disclaimer This may be somewhat of a personal "plug", as I am about to profile an event put on by my own sorority, but I am really proud of the girls who organized it and wanted to highlight this and a few other philanthropy events that those in the GW Greek community are putting on in the remaining weeks of school.
Last weekend the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority hosted its annual Lion's Share Tournament to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House. For those of you who do not know of this organization, it is a national non-profit which provides housing for families of sick children who are receiving medical care in cities other than their hometown. Several of GW's Fraternities entered teams in the volleyball tournament, helping us to raise money for our cause.
ADPi is certainly not the only Greek organization on campus to be hosting such events this spring. Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity will be hosting a football tournament as a fundraiser on April 12th to benefit the Rape Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN).
The week of April 14-19 Sigma Chi will be holding its philanthropy event "Derby Days", a week- long fundraiser which includes skit night, a trivia contest, and outdoor events to benefit the Children's Miracle Network
On April 21-26 PIKE will be hosting its week-long Firemen's Challenge which includes penny wars, skit night, and a volleyball tournament to benefit DC Firemen.
Let me know if I missed any events! I'd love to publicize the ways that GW students work to benefit the larger community around them!
